Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

What Division/Age Group should my player be in, and what is the cost?

When does the season start?

Players will be assigned to teams based on the draft rules by the second week in February. Coaches will contact players shortly after the draft and schedule a team meeting and practice times and locations. The kickoff Jamboree is March 10/11th, 2012, games will be both Saturday and Sunday during the Jamboree. Regular season games are weekdays and Saturdays; regular season games start March 31th with weekday games starting April 2nd. The regular season should end around Memorial Day with playoffs (no playoffs in the Shetland Division) ending near the end of the school year. Rain or other factors may force the extension of the season.

When are practices and games?

Practice locations and times are determined by the individual coach. It's possible that a Brentwood players team may practice in Discovery Bay and a Discovery Bay player may have to practice in Brentwood. This is strictly a coaching decision once the season starts. Teams will generally have 2 games per week, one during the week after 5:00pm and one on Saturday. Times of the games will change based on the division and the number of teams in the league. Field locations vary, the list of fields used by BPBL is in the Fields link.

What is the difference between the Shetland 6 and Shetland 5u Divisions ?

Due to the number of participants in the Shetland division, BPBL has decided to split the division into 2 age groups. The 6 year olds will play in the Major division, and 4 & 5 year olds will play in the Minor division. Shetland Minor players will not be permitted to play "As Under" in the Major division unless they have completed at least 1 year in Minors in BPBL.

My player is better than Buster Posey, can he/she play up?

Actually, yes! PONY National now offers an 'And Under' age class that BPBL has adopted (at least a modified version of it). All divisions have been modified to allow players one year under the typical age cutoff to play, except Shetland, which has an additional stipulation.

How do I sign up for softball?

BPBL now offers tournament level softball. We will be investigating an in house program in the future. Our softball division is in it's infancy and we would love some help to move it into a full offering to the girls of Brentwood. For information on the competitive tournament teams email softball@brentwoodpony.org

Can my player play down?

Players who have developmental issues that might inhibit their ability to play or that may risk the safety of the player in his/her League age Division may be allowed to play down a division. To do this a request stating the reasons/issues can be submitted to the BPBL Board of Directors for review. If the request is approved the player will be allowed to play down a division. Please contact our Player Agent for more details.

What should I buy for my new player?

Players will receive (from top to bottom) a hat, shirt, baseball pants, and baseball socks. The manager of the team will receive batting helmets, baseballs, catching gear, a first aid kit, and (in some divisions) a baseball bat. Players will need to acquire on their own a baseball glove and a protective cup (sliding pants help with the cup). Once placed on a team most teams will purchase a shirt to wear under their jersey on cold days, and a belt - both of which will be matched to the team colors (generally the cost of these two items is around $15). Numbers and names will usually be added to the jersey by teams, the cost of this will vary based on the vendor used to apply the numbers.

How can I help Brentwood PONY Baseball?

Brentwood PONY Baseball is always in need of volunteers to assist with the many aspects of League administration. Various events, such as Player Evaluation Day, Opening Day/Jamboree Weekend, and the PONY World Series rounds are just a few of the many opportunities available for individuals to help the Board of Directors administer League activities. Please contact the Booster Chairperson (boosters@brentwoodpony.org), in the "Board of Directors" link above for further information.

What is the BPBL Policy on Refunds of League Fees?

All Brentwood PONY Baseball registration fees include a non-refundable $25 registration fee. The remainder of the registration fee will be refunded if the refund request is received by the Webmaster or Player Agent prior to the player being placed on a team. Brentwood PONY Baseball will not refund any league fees after the players are placed on teams. The BPBL Board of Directors can make exceptions to this Policy if reviewed and approved at a normal BPBL board meeting.

How is my player placed on a team?

For all divisions, there is a coach and manager for each team. The coach and manager's sons/daughters are guaranteed to be placed on the team. If you would like to coach or manage please register.

NEW Shetland players are placed on teams by nearest elementary school. Buddy/Carpool requests will NOT be honored.

RETURNING Shetland players will be placed on the same team provided either the coach or manager is returning. If you are a returning player and DO NOT want to return to the same team, you will be able to make that request during the registration process.

NEW Pinto Jr., Mustang 9, Bronco and Pony players, Pinto players who didn't play Pinto Jr., and Mustang 10 players who didn't play Mustang 9, are placed on teams via a draft. To be draft eligible, players must attend the player evaluation day ( see schedule on home page ). There will be ONLY ONE evaluation day. The makeup date on the home page is for rain-outs only. If, FOR ANY REASON, a player misses the evaluation day, he/she will be placed on a team via a hat pick process. Hat pick players are INELIGIBLE for post-draft trades.

Pinto players who played Pinto Jr., Mustang 10 players who played Mustang 9, and returning Bronco and Pony players will be placed on the same team provided the coach and/or manager is returning. If you are a returning player and DO want to return to the same team DO NOT attend evaluations. If you are a returning player and DO NOT want to return to the same team, make that request during the registration process and attend evaluations.

ALL players who attend evaluations WILL be draft eligible. There will be NO exceptions.
